Cannabis sativa L., known as hemp, has been a fundamental crop throughout human history, valued for its versatility in producing fibers, seeds, and oils. Its relevance has intensified in recent times, driven by the need for sustainable alternatives in animal feed and the production of bioproducts. This paper examines the nutritional composition of hemp and its potential as a source of protein and fat in animal diets, especially in a context where the increasing demand for animal products and rising costs of traditional ingredients pose significant challenges. The benefits of incorporating hemp seeds and hemp seed meal into the diets of ruminants and non-ruminants are analyzed, highlighting their ability to enhance the quality of meat, milk, and eggs and contribute to environmental sustainability. Despite the need for further research on their effects and the regulation of cannabinoid content, hemp presents a promising future in the food and livestock industries.
